Ktunaxa Community Housing

(Design Development Complete 2026, Target Construction Start Q4 2026)

LANGUAGE + LAND AS TEACHER

The design follows Ktunaxa teachings that connect language, land, and material. Ktunaxa language appears in signage, wayfinding, and surface treatments to support cultural presence. Wood and stone are used with cultural meaning and placed to mark entries, gathering areas, and circulation routes. Views toward nearby mountains link residents to the land and its role in daily life.

CONNECTED LIVING + COMMUNITY WELL-BEING

The building supports relationships among residents, community, and the land. The ground-level amenity room opens to a deck for gatherings and cultural use with direct access outside. Family units on the main floor have patios, and upper floors are arranged around a central corridor with views to the surrounding landscape. The landscape plan includes native plants, planters, play areas, and a fire gathering space to support community use and land connection.

STORYTELLING THROUGH FORM + MATERIAL

Storytelling is expressed through pattern, material, and light. Façade elements, balcony railings, and screens draw from Ktunaxa beadwork and teachings. Interior spaces use natural materials and lighting that support gathering, ceremony, and storytelling. Thresholds such as porches, patios, and shared spaces create links between home, community, and land.
