The Niitsitapi Early Learning Centre is designed as a space that combines contemporary and traditional approaches to education, focusing on the urban Indigenous community in Calgary, Alberta. It celebrates Aboriginal culture and languages while fostering holistic, lifelong learning. The design integrates Indigenous knowledge, spiritual practices, and community engagement, representing eleven distinct tribal groups. Through multiple community consultations and interviews with Elders, the center balances Indigenous and Western learning methods.
